ARTIST STATEMENT

"My work has evolved into a impressionistic realistic style. I love shapes and the light that gives them form. My subjects range from landscapes and animal portraits to figurative and fancy shoes – anything that captures my imagination. The shoes hav been an ongoing project and the industrial pieces came from machinery working on the Salt Water Beach in Richmond Beach. My goal is to be true to my subject and perhaps to give the viewer a smile. I am so happy to have found my passion and have the support of my family and health to pursue it."

Jane has been involved in the arts for much of her life beginning with music and turning to visual arts as an adult.  Before moving to Seattle in 2000, she took classes and workshops at the Art Student’s League (Alexandria, VA), University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, PA) and Duke University (Durham, NC). She has also taken classes through the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA. After moving to the Seattle area, her career advanced as she has continued to take classes and workshops with Lianna Bennett, Michael Maczuga, Greg Biolchini, Julann Campbell, Ned Mueller, Dorothy Lampl, Gay Faulkenberry, Bill Hosner, Carolyn Anderson and Margaret Dyer. Along with husband, George, and golden retriever, Buddy, Jane resides in Richmond Beach, Washington where she draws much of her inspiration from the views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Working primarily in oils and pastels, Jane vividly portrays the beauty of Northwest scenery as well as anything else that intrigues her in a colorful impressionistic style.
