ARTIST STATEMENTSilver and Goldpoint
Silver and goldpoint are centuries old drawing techniques where the artist draws with a metal wire on a specially prepared surface. As I continue to work in metal-point, I am pursuing a tradition which has fallen into disuse simply because of an abundance of alternatives. I use silver today in much the same way as it was used by the Renaissance artists. With this historical perspective I can blend an age-old medium with contemporary thinking The silverpoint line created darkens to sepia over time as the silver tarnishes. Silverpoint, like pen and ink, cannot be erased and so calls for great skill and confidence from the artist. These pieces are to be included in a Summer 2013 traveling exhibition of silverpoint work. The exhibit will commence at The Smith Museum of Fine Art, Auburn University, Georgia and from there throughout Modern Art Museums of the South East."
