ARTIST STATEMENT
"Water media allow me to express the imagery I see and feel in nature. I translate and abstract the contemporary experience of life into visual language that goes beyond words. I have deliberately eliminated any attempts at literal representation. I find non-representational art particularly well suited for exploring and expressing emotions and the inner life. I like the viewer to respond emotionally to the abstracted shapes , colors, and textures. For years I painted in oils, but have switched to water media. At first, acrylics seemed very flat to me, I missed the textures I had achieved painting oils with a palette knife. To compensate for the lack of texture I started using “Washi” and other papers over the base painting, then applying numerous additional layers of paint and medium."
Born and educated in Germany, I began making art with watercolors, experimenting and adopting other media in later years. My informal art education includes courses and workshops at the Boston Museum of Fine Art School, the DeCordova Museum School in Lincoln (MA), and Sir George Williams University in Montreal, Canada. In addition I have attended national and international workshops and classes in various media.
