ARTIST BACKGROUND
In 1997 I moved to Eastern Washington with my family, and was struck immediately by the subtle and magnetic landscape. I wanted to distill down to their essence the strong shapes and contrasting colors and textures, without sacrificing the realism of landscape. With a simple palette of primary colors, I try to create the subtle, muted tones of far distant fields and rich, vibrant foregrounds. I look for ways using color, light and shadow, to communicate the wonder I feel for a landscape that often goes unseen because it is perceived as bleak and monotonous. The best results in the paintings, and in myself, are a sense of calm and serenity.
