Member Biography

ARTIST BACKGROUND

I was born and raised in the UK. I moved to the USA about 13 years ago. I had to wait nearly 5 years while the INS moved at a snails pace to get me my green card. I used the time to go back to college and take some inspiring art courses with great instructors in California. 

On moving to Washington I was inspired by the wet streets of Seattle, the glittering reflections and vibrant energy from the light. I paint using a variety of techniques; I treat each new canvas as a new beginning, employing different styles, palettes and methods depending on how I view the subject. My style tends towards realism, and I have been compared to Edward Hopper more times than I can remember, but ultimately I have my own constantly evolving style. It is important to me that I don’t “ stand still” as a painter, and that I am constantly searching and growing as an artist.

In 2009 I was awarded the Daniel Smith Grand Prize from over 3000 artists for my painting “ Travelers”. Since then I have won several other awards, including First Place for painting in the North Kitsap art show, and the Teresa Asia Award presented by Barbara Shaiman of the Seattle Art Museum for my painting “ Visions on Third and Pike”

I have been involved in Public art commissions as a mural artist, and am on the Washington Arts Council Rosta of Artists to be selected for public art projects.

I am a member of the Women Painters of Washington and am represented in Bainbridge Arts and Crafts on an ongoing basis. My work can be seen on my website at www.wilsonmurals.com
