ARTIST
STATEMENT
"I have been privileged to work as a professional artist in the Seattle Area for over 25 years. My paintings have been exhibited in shows and galleries both locally and nationally. During that time, I have come to understand that the act of painting is a tool for discovering how to live life to the fullest rather than a method of producing pretty pictures to hang on a wall. The practice of painting is now embedded in my life, just as my life is embedded in my paintings.
My recent paintings on Plexiglas have given me the opportunity to explore my interests in the dualistic nature of the universe and the many influences of light as a visual element. I love to experience random systems moving toward structure and then naturally disintegrating again toward confusion. It’s a never ending cycle.
I observe the same forces at work as I move through the construction of a painting. Recently I have been contemplating the intentional randomness inherent in Zen thought and contrasted it with the systematic binary structure of computer programming language. This is the basis for my series of paintings called “Zen Dots and Pixels.”
